About the Role
We are seeking a skilled CAD Engineer to join our automotive design and development team. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating detailed 3D models, technical drawings, and design documentation for automotive components and systems including metal fabrications, sheet metal assemblies, and plastic injection molded parts, working closely with cross-functional teams to bring innovative vehicle designs from concept to production. As a CAD Engineer at Arbor Mobility, you will play a crucial role in the design and analysis of diverse two-wheeler components across multiple materials- from structural metal components and complex sheet metal assemblies to precision plastic parts. You will forge strong collaborations within our dynamic, cross-functional team of engineers and designers, collectively driving innovation in the automotive industry.
Key Responsibilities: -
Design (CAD): -
Utilize industry-standard CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, CATIA, SolidWorks) to create detailed 2D and 3Dmodels of components and assemblies
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and modify product designs, ensuring they meet project requirements and specifications
Conduct design reviews and provide recommendations for improvements to enhance manufacturability and performance
Create and maintain technical drawings, specifications, and bill of materials (BOM)
Conduct tolerance analysis and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) applications
Support weight and cost reduction initiatives through design optimization and value engineering
Analyze simulation results to pinpoint potential design flaws and optimization prospects
2. Prototyping and Testing Support: -
Assist in the creation of prototypes and conduct testing to validate design concepts
Support prototype development and testing phases with design modifications and improvements
3. Documentation and Reporting: -
Maintain comprehensive documentation of CAD designs and the process followed
Prepare clear and concise reports and presentations to communicate findings to the team
Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
Should demonstrate ability to build understanding from basic principles rather than relying solely on existing frameworks, should approach challenges with first principles thinking
2+ years of experience in automotive CAD design with proficiency in software such as AutoCAD, CATIA, Ansys, SolidWorks
Knowledge of relevant engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes with strong understanding in topics such as Theory of Machines, Strength of Materials
Experience with GD&T principles and tolerance analysis
Basic understanding of manufacturing processes (machining, welding, casting, extrusion, injection molding, thermoforming etc.)
Knowledge of plastic material properties , selection criteria for automotive applications and plastic joining methods
Design plastic components and assemblies considering moldability, shrinkage, and warpage
Proficiency in plastic-specific design guidelines including draft angles, wall thickness, and rib design
Familiarity with automotive-grade plastics (PP, ABS, PC, PA, etc.)
Basic knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) concepts
Understanding of vehicle packaging constraints and automotive design requirements
Self-motivated and eager to take initiative
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
About the Company
Arbor Mobility is a 2W EV start-up based out of Bengaluru, India. We at Arbor Mobility are developing a performance two-wheeler EV motorcycle. The three Co-Founders have done their Masters in Automotive Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA, and have worked for various Automotive companies in India and the USA and are now determined to create something exciting in the EV space. The company was started in November, 2022 and is now rapidly expanding. We, at Arbor Mobility are trying to answer the basic question of how to increase the adoption of EVs in India. EV usage is a paradigm shift in consumer behaviour. It requires us to think how to tackle the issues such as charging, range anxiety & safety for a consumer. We at Arbor Mobility think it is essential to make it easy for the customers to switch to EVs. Hence, we have taken an innovative customer centric approach for our product development.
