About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented CAD Engineering Intern to join our dynamic design team. This is a hands-on opportunity to apply your academic CAD knowledge to real-world challenges in electric vehicle development. You will work alongside experienced CAD Engineers and Designers, supporting the creation of precise 3D models and 2D drawings for components and systems that will define our next-generation vehicles.


Key Responsibilities

  • Create 3D Models & Drawings: Assist in the creation and modification of 3D parametric models and detailed 2D drawings for vehicle components and subsystems under the guidance of senior engineers.

  • Support Assembly Management: Help build and manage sub-assemblies, checking for fit and interference and ensuring the digital product structure is accurately maintained.

  • Learn and Apply GD&T: Gain practical experience by applying Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to engineering drawings to ensure manufacturability and assembly intent.

  • Participate in Design Reviews: Attend internal design reviews to observe the process and present your own work, learning how to incorporate feedback and identify potential design issues.

  • Implement Design Changes:  Support the team by making necessary updates to models and drawings based on engineering feedback, ensuring the digital design data accurately reflects the current design intent.

  • Problem-Solving & Root Cause Analysis: Participate in troubleshooting and root cause analysis for component or system failures, contributing to the development of effective solutions.

  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare clear and concise reports, presentations, and summaries of your work to share with the engineering team and leadership.

  • Collaborate with Teams: Work with mechanical design, manufacturing, and other engineering groups to understand design requirements and constraints.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.

  • Foundational proficiency in a major 3D CAD software package (e.g., SOLIDWORKS, CATIA, Siemens NX, Creo) gained through coursework and/or personal projects.

  • Basic understanding of engineering drawings, tolerancing, and core mechanical design principles.

  • Experience managing assemblies within a CAD environment (e.g., constraints, kinematics).

  • An interest in manufacturing processes such as injection molding, stamping, or casting.

  • Strong spatial reasoning and a keen attention to detail.

  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • A genuine passion for the automotive industry and electric vehicles. Good to have:

  • Coursework or project experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).

  • Hands-on involvement in engineering projects like Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Solar Car, robotics, or other relevant personal/academic projects.

About the Company

Arbor Mobility is a 2W EV start-up based out of Bengaluru, India. We at Arbor Mobility are developing a performance two-wheeler EV motorcycle. The three Co-Founders have done their Masters in Automotive Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA, and have worked for various Automotive companies in India and the USA and are now determined to create something exciting in the EV space. The company was started in November, 2022 and is now rapidly expanding. We, at Arbor Mobility are trying to answer the basic question of how to increase the adoption of EVs in India. EV usage is a paradigm shift in consumer behaviour. It requires us to think how to tackle the issues such as charging, range anxiety & safety for a consumer.
