About the Role
We are looking for a Firmware Testing & Validation Lead to define, develop, and lead the complete testing framework for all embedded controllers in our 2W Electric Vehicle platform — including the VCU (Vehicle Control Unit), MCU (Motor Control Unit), and BMS. The candidate will be responsible for extracting requirements from Simulink models and firmware specifications, defining test strategies, and ensuring comprehensive verification and validation (V&V) of all control software components.
This is a core leadership position where you will establish testing methodologies, tools, and automation frameworks to guarantee the reliability, safety, and performance of all embedded software running on the vehicle.
Key Responsibilities
1. Test Planning & Requirement Analysis
Extract, analyze, and formalize test requirements from Simulink model diagrams, software design documents, and system specifications.
Define test coverage, traceability, and acceptance criteria aligned with system and functional safety goals.
Work closely with firmware and controls engineers to understand intended behavior and identify corner cases.
2. Test Case Development & Execution
Develop manual and automated test cases for various firmware modules (Motor control, Vehicle control, Communication, Diagnostics, etc.).
Implement MIL, SIL, PIL, and HIL level testing strategies.
Develop test cases for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) setups, simulating real vehicle conditions.
Ensure test repeatability and regression coverage for all software releases.
3. Test Framework & Infrastructure
Design and implement a comprehensive testing framework for different controllers (VCU, MCU, BCU, etc.).
Define test automation architecture using scripting tools (Python, CAPL, MATLAB, etc.) and hardware test rigs.
Integrate continuous integration (CI) pipelines with automated testing (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).
Establish test data logging, results reporting, and traceability to requirements (Req→Test mapping).
4. Team Leadership & Quality Management
Lead and mentor a team of test engineers responsible for embedded and system-level validation.
Set up standard operating procedures (SOPs) for firmware testing across all controllers.
Drive adherence to automotive software quality standards (ASPICE, ISO 26262).
Collaborate with design, firmware, and hardware teams to ensure closed-loop feedback and continuous quality improvement.
5. Test Tools & Automation
Develop and maintain automated test scripts using tools like Python, CANoe/CAPL, MATLAB, NI LabVIEW, or dSPACE ControlDesk.
Utilize version control (Git) and defect tracking tools (JIRA, Redmine, etc.).
Define and maintain test harnesses and simulation environments for unit, integration, and system testing.
Requirements
Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechatronics, or Embedded Systems.
4+ years of experience in embedded firmware testing, preferably in automotive or EV domain.
Solid understanding of embedded firmware architectures, real-time systems, and control algorithms.
Strong experience with Simulink model interpretation, model-based testing (MBT), and requirement traceability.
Hands-on with test automation tools (Python, CAPL, NI TestStand, LabVIEW, dSPACE AutomationDesk, etc.).
Familiarity with CAN, LIN, UART, SPI, I2C protocol-level testing and diagnostic frameworks.
Experience with HIL test environments (dSPACE, NI PXI, Vector, Speedgoat, or similar).
Knowledge of static and dynamic code testing, code coverage, and fault injection techniques.
Exposure to ISO 26262 (Functional Safety), ASPICE, or similar safety/quality standards.
Familiarity with continuous integration systems (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD).
Experience in test documentation, defect lifecycle management, and test reporting.
About the Company
Arbor Mobility is a 2W EV start-up based out of Bengaluru, India. We at Arbor Mobility are developing a performance two-wheeler EV motorcycle. The three Co-Founders have done their Masters in Automotive Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA, and have worked for various Automotive companies in India and the USA and are now determined to create something exciting in the EV space. The company was started in November, 2022 and is now rapidly expanding. We, at Arbor Mobility are trying to answer the basic question of how to increase the adoption of EVs in India. EV usage is a paradigm shift in consumer behaviour. It requires us to think how to tackle the issues such as charging, range anxiety & safety for a consumer. We at Arbor Mobility think it is essential to make it easy for the customers to switch to EVs. Hence, we have taken an innovative customer centric approach for our product development. This provides an exciting opportunity for anyone who want to join the efforts to build the future of automotive industry in India & the world.
